King Charles III's Coronation Medal

The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada. the medal program was first announced three days before the Coronation, on May 3, 2023, by the Prime Minister. The design of the medal and the details of the program were announced by Rideau Hall on May 6, 2024, the first anniversary of the Coronation.

To honour public service employees, medals have been allocated to the Canadian Armed Forces, federal departments and agencies, including the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP). 

As a nominating body for the King Charles III's Coronation Medal, the CACP has established a three-person special purpose committee, chaired by the CACP President, responsible for:

  1. applying the selection criteria listed below
  2. identifying potential medal recipients
  3. considering any submitted nominations

CACP Guidelines

Selection Criteria

The Governor General of Canada requires that medal recipients:

  1. Have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada, and
  2. Were alive on 6 May 2023, the date of the King's Coronation. (Note: The award can be made posthumously, as long as the candidate was alive on that date.)

In addition, medal recipients must:

  1. Be an Active or Associate member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP)
  2. Have held a CACP leadership role as of May 6, 2023, the date of the King's Coronation
  3. Have furthered the mission, vision and objectives of the CACP

The following individuals were selected and invited to attend a presentation ceremony held on March 26, 2025, at the Château Laurier in Ottawa, Ontario, to receive the King Charles III's Coronation Medal from CACP President, Commissioner Thomas Carrique:
