E-Crime Cyber Council (ECC)
Mandate
The E-Crime Cyber Council (ECC) is comprised of police experts, innovative private sector leaders, academic and government observers who work with government departments, ministries, and agencies at federal, provincial, and local levels to undertake supportive policies and approaches that will make Canada a world leader in addressing the threat and harm of cybercrime.The ECC provides expert guidance and recommendations to the CACP Electronic Crime (E-Crimes) Committee on cyber crime matters and related investigations support activities of operational significance to the Canadian law enforcement community.
Objectives
- To enable the citizens and governments of Canada to fully realize the advantages of a cyber-enabled world, while remaining safe and free from harm and victimization.
- To leverage diverse and well-informed perspectives to recognize and examine current and emerging trends and developments.
- To connect the diverse and well-informed perspectives to current and potential research and parallel initiatives, with a view to recognizing opportunities and enabling promising practices in social policy, industry priorities, and technologies that will provide greater safety and security in the cyber world.
- To work collectively and collaboratively to determine the technology and educational awareness needs of those seeking to stop or reduce the harmful effects of cybercrime in Canada – both private and public sector stakeholders – for the purpose of advancing this community’s capacity, leadership, knowledge, and skills.
- To assist in the development of strategic plans, projects and initiatives to help combat cyber crime.
- To advise and act on recommendations related to the planning, implementation and communications of identified cyber security needs.
- To address the training needs of Canadian police services seeking to develop the cyber security knowledge and skills of front-line officers so they can support and assist victims and help prevent further harm and victimization.
- To build strong alliances through links within respective networks and communities.
- To identify and advocate for current and pending political, legislative and regulatory developments.
- To advise on the present and future trends and needs of the community and marketplace.
