CACP National Webinar - Policing Hatred: Criminal Law Responses to Hate-Motivated Conduct

July 9, 2025, 11:00 AM

This webinar will provide a detailed description of the full range of criminal law measures available to law enforcement to combat hatred. That description, complemented by a PowerPoint presentation and take-away materials for participants, will lead to an analysis of specific case scenarios, relevant to a wide range of identifiable communities, and how law enforcement might best respond. The scenarios will include protests and demonstrations, and the intersection of criminal law and Charter protections. Finally, the webinar will address contemporary antisemitism and its relevance to policing. Attendees will be able to submit questions or comments online throughout the presentation.

The webinar will be conducted by Mark Sandler and Rochelle Direnfeld, both experts in hate motivated crimes.
