Job Description / Duties
Community Patrol officers respond to calls for service as directed and provide emergency response. Constables patrol assigned areas, observing for unusual occurrences, violations of Federal or Provincial Laws and Municipal By-Laws, arresting suspects of criminal nature, issue citations, preserve peace, check buildings for security purposes, prepare reports for court, attend court, and assist in investigations of criminal activity.
Major Responsibilities:
- Prepare personal protective equipment, equipment bag and cruiser for duty
- Receive information prior to duty by way of parade briefing
- Conduct proactive patrolling observing surroundings and responding as required
- Respond to Dispatch calls, containing the scene and ensuring safety of involved parties as required
- Arrest, detain and transport person in custody as required
- Locate, obtain, handle and preserve physical evidence as required
- Set-up barriers to contain crowds and prevent access to scenes/areas
- Direct/control traffic, remove hazards and preserve accident scenes as required
- Dictate/write reports pertaining to patrol activities as required
- Follow-up and complete all aspects of investigations as required
- Attend court and testify as required
- Ensure open and fulsome communication with supervisor, colleagues and members of the public
- Respond to enquiries and/or complaints from members of the public
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Required Skills
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
- Successfully completed secondary school or equivalent to Ontario education system
- Successfully completed Basic Constable Training or equivalent
- Post-secondary education considered an asset
- Must pass PREP (Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police) test
- Must possess current Standard First Aid and current CPR certificates
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License, Class G
- Obtained OACP Certificate or equivalent
Salary: $64,200.32 - $116,649.79
