Event Description
When traditional investigational techniques utilized by police have been exhausted, the police must explore new options to further their investigations. In certain circumstances, persons with criminal jeopardy are identified who may possess key information that will enable the police to advance their investigations. The police and Crown Counsel have employed processes in which a person with criminal jeopardy may provide evidence to the court, while recognizing the jeopardy they face for the offence(s) under investigation. The session will provide an overview of the vetting process involved with the use of high risks witnesses and how the British Columbia Witness Security Program was created as a result.
