OTTAWA, ONTARIO – The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) is proud to announce the winner of the 2020 CACP Policing Partnership Award which recognizes a partnership established between the public and private sectors to improve the overall safety and security of Canadians. This award is presented to an individual who has developed a partnership that has succeeded in creating a crime prevention initiative that has been beneficial to the partnership and has improved public safety.

Corporal Allan Paterson is the 2020 laureate of this award in recognition of his initiative, determination and leadership in the anti-fraud campaign geared to prevent seniors from purchasing gift cards for fraudsters. Committed to the well-being and protection of seniors, Corporal Paterson implemented a campaign with retailers selling gift cards in McLennan, Alberta, to sensitize them to the fact that some seniors purchase gift cards to comply with fraudsters’ requests. Corporal Paterson created a checklist that was distributed to all merchants to encourage their staff to ask seniors important questions before selling them gift cards to detect any potential fraud. As a result of this successful operation, these checklists were distributed to all RCMP offices in the province of Alberta.
