National Police Week 2026: Committed to Serve Together

Ottawa, ON, May 10, 2026– Today marks the beginning of National Police Week — a seven-day, annual public awareness campaign that encourages connections between police and the communities they serve.

This campaign represents an opportunity to emphasize how police officers are both members of the community they live in and members of the police community they work in. The theme "Committed to Serve Together" highlights the essential partnerships that underpin public safety. It acknowledges the collaboration within a police service, between police services, between the police and other first responders, as well as between the police and social, health and community organizations. Public safety is also shaped by the everyday actions of individuals and families who care about the places where they live.

This year, National Police Week is focused on the human side of policing and the everyday moments that build understanding, collaboration and trust. These connections, often formed through simple conversations, shared experiences, collaborative solutions, as well as acts of courage and compassion, are what help create stronger communities. “Commited to Serve Together” reflects the idea that safe communities grow when everyone takes responsibility for looking out for one another and remaining engaged in their communities.

“Policing is ultimately about people,” says Commissioner Thomas Carrique, President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. “National Police Week is an opportunity to recognize the human connections that exist between police officers, public safety personnel, and communities and how those relationships contribute to building safer and more resilient communities.”

Canadians do not differentiate between patches or names. To them, we are simply the police, one collective team of law enforcement professionals working with and for communities across the country. National Police Week is an opportunity for the police community to renew its commitment to working together and supporting the communities that place their trust in us.
