Peace Officer (Experienced Police Officer)
Looking for a rewarding career where you can share your experience as a Police Officer? The Legislative Protective Services Branch (LPS) is looking for experienced Police Officers to join our team of armed Peace Officers. As a valued member of our team, and as an experienced Peace Officer reporting directly to Sergeant in Operations, you will collaborate closely with a dynamic group of Officers and Sergeants. LPS Peace Officers who are armed and possess full police powers within the Province of Ontario.

What You’ll Do
You’ll act with integrity to:
• Act in conformity with the law and established policies
• Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism by exhibiting the utmost tact, diplomacy and confidentiality

You’ll support our collaboration as you:
• Carry out your duties as a Peace Officer in accordance with legislation and Service standards
• Apply the principles of bias-free law enforcement
• Conduct general patrols and control access within the Legislative Precinct
• Respond to calls for Service (i.e. criminal activity, security breaches, medical emergencies, potential threats, etc.)
• Maintain safety of self and others
• Provide exceptional customer service in your daily interactions with Members of Provincial Parliament, the media, visiting dignitaries and the general public
• Complete investigations and prepare reports

Qualifications / Required Skills

How You Qualify
You demonstrate excellence through your:

• Minimum secondary school (high school) diploma or post-secondary education.
• Past training and police experience.
• Possession of a Class G license.
• Fit for duty physical and mental ability to perform the duties of the position.
• A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
• Excellent communication skills, orally and written.

Note: Applicants with proof of a recognized Police Service within the last five (5) years will be eligible to complete the Experienced Officer training program of four (4) weeks if they can provide:
• Currently serving or have served with a recognized Police Service within the last 5 years
• Proof of completing their probationary period with a police service
• Proof of Accredited Police College Transcript
• Record of Discipline (formal and informal)
• Record of Awards/Letters of commendation/appreciation
• Two letters of reference from Police Service
• Member in good standing with their Police Service including no outstanding, or previous disciplinary actions or charges.

You will be required to work rotational shifts, 40 hours per week in a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation.

Note: The recruitment process includes successful completion of BPAD/PIN test, Interview, Psychological Assessment, and an extensive background check, including a police reference check, will be required for those applicants who advance to the mandatory screening stage of our recruitment process. Applicants are required to successfully pass all LPS firearms qualification shooting tests. There is no parking available on-site at any point during the competition. Only those successful at each stage of the competition will be contacted.

Salary: Employment offers are conditional on successfully completing and passing all training (firearms testing, academic and physical).
• 4-week EPO training Program start wage PO Cadet: $68, 456
• After successful graduation move to PO Step 3 wage band: $101,582
• Any change to salary will be governed by the Assembly’s salary administration policies (PO Step 4: $117,497)
