The Future of the Coalition
The Coalition Project was a very successful attempt to bring together police and national organizations involved in social development.
The non-governmental organizations which participated recommended most strongly that the Coalition continue under the leadership of the CACP. In response, the CACP Board agreed that it while it could not sustain the Coalition, it would provide transitional funding from July 2007 through March 2008 so that the Coalition might be transformed into a more formal entity.
Since February 2009, the CACP Board has provided up to $35,000 for the Coalition. These new resources which permit the Coalition Office to operate on a part-time basis have been allocated annually on the understanding that alternate sources of funding, whether sustainable or project-based, will be secured from government sources or private sector sponsors.

Efforts continue to build the Coalition on Community Safety, Health and Well-being as a formal, yet loosely organized, partnership of national non-governmental organizations involved in social development. Currently, the Coalition has 32 members. Its mandate is:

To advocate to decision-makers at all levels in the public and private sector for improved community safety, health and well-being and to promote public awareness of crime prevention through social development by:
  • providing a common voice promoting social development measures that contribute to the safe and healthy development of Canadian communities;
  • linking organizations and agencies that hold evidence-based research and information on crime prevention through sustainable social development; and
  • addressing the causes and risk factors leading to crime and victimization.
